The area around Eidsbugarden has been in use since 1868 when Aasmund Olavsson Vinje, the Norwegian writer and poet, built his cottage.
Today the cottage stands on a little hilltop close to the hotel where a stone monument has been erected in his memory.
The Eidsbugarden hotel, which is today painted
in the classic red of the area, has seen many
changes over the years, not least for the royal visit in 1909.
The hotel is situated in the heart of the magnificent Jotunheimen mountain range.
On the slope of the glacial green Bygdinlake, surrounded by majestic scenery you may encanta reindeer and gouse.
An experience you will never forget.
Eidsbugarden was reopened in 2006 as a family-run hotel
after extensive restoration.
The owners have restored the original timber interior
of the dining room and lounge with its log fireplace.
Bedrooms and bathrooms have been modernized
and tastefully decorated but five of the original beds
are still in use.
Lounges are comfortably furnished, and from the glacier
blue dining room one can sit and enjoy the view of Galdeberg.
